“You wake up in the morning and you look at your old spoon, and you say to yourself, Mick, it’s time to get yourself a new spoon. And you do.” – Mick Jagger.
Come along and join our experienced carver, Alichia van Rhijn – Hearth Collective, for this full day spoon and board carving course. Over the day you will be instructed in the basics of the very relaxing and ultimately satisfying craft of carving. Our introduction to carving includes; use and care of carving tools, selecting and preparing timber, shaping and carving techniques, tool sharpening and lastly timber finishing. There is something quite beautiful about a carefully crafted and lovingly carved form. The shape and function of simple, yet hand sculpted and organically shaped spoons and boards are a delight to hold and use.
By the end of the day you can expect to have made a simple spoon as well as a carved and organically formed chopping board or wooden paddle of your own to take home, and also to have mastered basic carving skills, to sufficiently practice on your own. All tools and materials are provided. Absolute beginners to more advanced woodworkers are very welcome.
