Shane commenced his cabinet-making apprenticeship with a business established by William Schembri 126 years ago. He was taught all aspects of the craft of furniture-making, acquiring the skill of traditional techniques used in the manufacture of fine furniture.
In 1998 Shane established his own business in furniture-making. His love of fine woodwork lead him to the art of violin-making which he pursues passionately as a pastime.
Desiring to share his knowledge and skill-set to apprentices in cabinet-making, Shane commenced teaching at Chisholm Institute in 2001 where he continues today. In 2013, he enhanced his vocation with a Graduate Diploma in Technology Education from La Trobe University. This formal qualification enabled him to teach design, creativity and technology to students in the primary and secondary school sector.
Shane enjoys mentoring students not only to produce a fine example of furniture but to appreciate natural elements at work in the timber and stains used in its creation.
